Whether you realize it or not, most lawyer fees are negotiable. Lawyers in California who offer their services on a contingency fee basis must disclose to a new client that their contingency fees are negotiable. Now, that doesn't mean the lawyer you're meeting with is required to agree to the percentage you suggest, but it does mean that you have the right to suggest a fee that is different (lower) that what the lawyer is requesting that you pay...
